15.3

I think that if more people knew how to effectively fill out an application and do a job search it would be easier for more people to find work. However I know that in many rural areas there is not much work available. Effective interviewing skills is also essential. The internet has so many different job search engines that many people can find jobs without even leaving their homes to fill out an application. I found my present job by filling out the application online. I found that by doing the application online and uploading a resume the employer has all of the information that they may need already and there is no need for further information to be provided. It also seems like most employers are going to online only applications.

Reflection

I feel that with unemployment at an all time low that the information that we have gone over in the last few chapters is vital for anyone looking for a job these days. Look beyond regular searching tools such as monster.com and career builder.com. Everyone starts there when they are looking for a job. Get out and hit the pavement! Go to businesses you want to work in and talk with their HR reps, they may have a job that hasn't been mass advertised yet. I have never had to write a resume so the information on how to begin with a cover letter and what needs to be included has helped me learn where I need to begin. The 50 interview questions were eye opening to say the least I have had a few interviews and I always felt unprepared, but after going through these questions I feel more confident. With the help of the Internet people can do wider base searches for work and can email their resumes instead of mailing them. It has also opened up the ability for web interviews. I feel that with the things I have learned in this class that I am more prepared when it comes time for me to begin the process of job searching.

Presentation

This assignment has proven to be a real challenge for me. I had a lot of fun getting the pictures for my slides  together it brought back some very good memories. I have used power point before so that wasn't a problem. I have never added any audio to any of my slide shows so that part was a new experience for me. I did learn that even if you are using your own computer for a long assignment you should always backup your work onto a flash drive.

Presentation

I have found that it is easier for me to work with Windows Movie maker then it is PowerPoint. I know that when I move forward in my professional career that PowerPoint will be used more then any other program for giving presentations. Next time I will give myself more time to work on a presentation.

Learning something new.

As a small business owner I have done a lot of trial and error learning over the past eight years. Spending the last eleven weeks in this class I feel there are many areas that maybe I could have done better or differently. This class has opened my eyes to the many positive possibilities of using social medias such as Twitter, Facebook, and Blogging for my business. I am planning on doing a major revamp on my business and implementing a Facebook page and a blog after the first of the year. I will use them both to give my clients a way to find out what is new and also give them a way to leave comments and requests.
I am a small business owner and do not currently have any employees so the chapter on to go about terminating someone really doesn't apply to me. I won't have a use for it unless our economy starts to come back. If that were to happen I might be able to expand and take on a few employees.

A New Outlook!

Before I began in this class I really had no idea why people would want to have a twitter account and what the big deal about blogs was. As this class has progressed I have come to realize that there are many more uses for both blogs and twitter than I had originally thought. I assumed that twitter was only good for those who wanted keep up with all the junk that the stars were up to or the trouble they were getting into. As for blogs I never really gave them  much thought. I don't have a lot of time for the internet, so sitting down and reading a blog about anything has not been a top priority for me. Since then I have set a twitter account and a blog page as well. I have come to  realize that both cane be used to help build and market my small business as well as be valid research and networking tools. I am even thinking about starting a business blog to help keep my clients informed about the benefits of massage and new services that I am looking at offering. It will allow them to give their input and allow me to see where I need to make improvements to my company. Twitter would be a good way to offer specials or product discounts as well.

Blogging for My Business

Blogging can be used in so many ways. I had never given it much thought when it came to my business, but since I started this class I have been really thinking about starting one for my own. As a Massage Therapist in this economy I am always looking for new innovated ideas to stay ahead of the game. With a blog for my business I would be able to share the benefits of massage with a wider customer base while allowing my clients the opportunity of commenting and describing the benefits they have experienced. It would also be a helpful way of letting my current clients know about new services I would be adding. It would be a great way of getting input for new ideas as far as things that current and future clients have seen at other spas that might make a good addition to my location. A blog would open up a new way for letting my clients know about specials as well. the more that I think about it the more I like the idea of starting a blog for my business.
